It has been a minute.
There have been 63 days since our last blog post about Mars: (https://www.yupgear.com/the-world-is-talking-about-mars/) , and it has been on our minds ever since. It does not look like too many people took an interest in that post, so you may be asking yourself, “why is this being talked about again?” The answer is. Cause. I like it.
Not major reason here, I just wanted to talk more about Mars.
NASA
In the last post we discussed that NASA sent a rover successfully to Mars. The rover is called MARS 2020 Perseverance Rover. This thing is pumping back great content. The pictures and data that we have seen is amazing.
NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory put out a video called, ‘Firsts’ Achieved Since NASA’s Perseverance Mars Rover Landing (News Audio + Visuals) which can be seen here:
In the video that was a teleconference, about an hour of coverage was provided to the public. Honestly, the production level was not very strong, but the images more than make up for it. Maybe they should reach out to the team at Watchtower Studios (I have seen what they do, and they do it well.) PLUG – www.watchtowerstudios.com
Ingenuity Helicopter
In addition, that helicopter has gone up and it works! It was not mentioned before in the past article written, but the helicopter is called ” Ingenuity”. That is a corporate name if I have ever heard one. Why not name it Frank, or Shelly, or Marcia? Let is have some personality….geez.
Now as exciting as all of this has been so far, let’s just point out that we do not have alien interaction, vast bodies of water, or sasquatch sightings on the planet,….yet. Right now we just have some dirt, and some rocks, and some…dirt. But it is still pretty cool.
Basically we have an RC car and an RC helicopter on Mars being controlled from Earth right now. It is just scientific feat!
Distraction
The world seems to have moved on a bit since Mars was all over ever news channel. Now we are hearing more about the Corona Virus counts again. I think we are all tired of that subject, so…..Mars!
The positive news is that no businesses are closed on Mars, and if you don’t wear a mask there you will die. Wait,…..is that positive? Not really huh.
Anyway, the 4 lb. Ingenuity took flight on Mars and it is the first flight on Mars that we know of. It took over 6 years of development and a 7 month flight to Mars on a rocket to make it happen, but it did indeed happen. We flew on Mars. The first flight was only about 40 seconds long. The aerial maneuvers consisted of going up and then down. It was like a standard DOGE coin after noon. It went about 10 feet off of the planet surface. Pretty boring as far as that goes, but the flight was considered a “technology demonstration”. Because the atmosphere on Mars is only 1% of that we have here on our planet that flight was much harder to accomplish.
The People
To all of the teams and individuals who made this Mars experience happen, you have our thanks. To all of the friends and family members who have been supporting these hands on people., Thank you.
